GrindStone Athletics (GSA) will assist athletes in setting and achieving personal objectives through rigorous and goal-oriented training in a safe, respectful, and positive environment.  GSA will provide a place for all athletes to attain their highest level of personal growth and physical improvement regardless of athletic background.

Thomas E. Lenhart II

Tom is a native of Virginia Beach, Virginia where he had a successful football career and earned a spot on the All-Beach team as a Defensive Lineman.  He attended West Virginia University and completed a BS in Multi-Disciplinary Studies followed by a certification in personal training through World Instructor Training.  He spent the last seven years teaching English as a Second Language in Brazil, Thailand, Russia, Turkey, and South Korea and completed a second personal training certification through American Council on Exercise. Throughout his travels he has trained in several combat sports, particularly in Muay Thai. Tom spent a year in Thailand training and competing with true Muay Thai fighters. Later, he assumed the role as coach and trained Chase “The Weapon” Walden to a 3 fight win streak and a World Title. Tom has spent the greater half of his life committed to athletics of all types and continues to gather knowledge to be the best coach, athlete, trainer, and person he can be. 

Chase Walden

Chase "The Weapon" Walden is GrindStone's Muay Thai Head Coach as well as Grindstone's Owner/Operator and CEO/Founder of Virginia Thai Fighting Championships He is the founder of the Grindstone Muay Thai training system. His many titles and achievements in his 23-year martial arts career include 2013 World Kickboxing Association (WKA) 165lbs World Champion, 2009 WKA 165 lbs National Muay Thai  Champion, two-time Modern Gladiators Super Welter weight (160lbs) Muay Thai Champion, 165lbs King Of The Ring Muay Thai Champion, and WKA 2010 Team USA National team member. In 2010, Chase achieved WKA world ranking #3. He fought in Italy, Scotland and Thailand; he trained in Thailand four times in his career, two of which were televised through the Work Point Super Studios in Bangkok Thailand. Chase is a certified Instructor of Kru Muay Thai Under Muay Thai International and holds a Tae Kwon Do Black belt. He is also CPR/AED Certified.

Derek Degges 

Derek is GrindStone's Strength & Conditioning Coach and Program Manager. Derek is a Virginia Beach native and full time firefighter for the city of Virginia Beach. Derek has competed in the Canadian-American Fire Police Games and the World Fire Police Games in the sport of power lifting: his best total as a 242 lb. lifter is 1181 pounds. As a coach, Derek employs a lowest effective dose and linear progression, barbell strength-centered model. He believes that the best way to get strong is to use barbels and pick up progressively heavier things.

Drew Crockett

Drew is a Virginia Beach firefighter and EMT and a Grindstone Strength & Conditioning Coach. Drew has a USA Swimming Level 2 certification,  including safety training and athlete protection training. He's trained swimmers from beginners to Olympians, from 4 to 80-years old. Drew was a Division 1 swimmer and scholarship athlete at Old Dominion University. While at ODU, Drew served as Captain of the ODU Mens swimming and diving team where he was a 4-time school record holder and a Conference USA Gold, Silver and Bronze medalist.

Chris Buckner

Chris is GrindStone's Grappling Coach. Chris was a collegiate wrestler at Old Dominion University. Chris coached wrestling and strength conditioning at the middle and high school level, most recently at Grassfield High School in Chesapeake where he helped to mold state champions and All-Americans. Chris also holds a purple Belt in jiu jitsu. Chris competed as Pro MMA fighter, "The Irish Pitbull", and coached amateur and Pro MMA fighters.

Wil is a retired United States Marine Infantryman and a 3rd Degree Black Belt in the Marine Corps Martial Arts Program. Throughout his career he instructed Marines, Sailors, Coast Guardsmen and police officers in BJJ, MMA, Weapons Retention, Self Defense and Women’s Self Defense. Wil competes at the Local, National and International level and has won numerous golds medals while competing in the advanced, expert, and professional divisions. Including multiple Gold Medals at the North American Grapplers Association World Championships, Newbreed National Championships, and United States Grappling. He has also competed in and won super fights at Submission Hunter Pro and Toro Cup. Wil was also a Double Bronze Medalist in the IBJJF Pan American Championships in 2018. During his MMA career he won multiple championships including the King of The Ring Lightweight Championship and the WKA Lightweight MMA Championship. He also coached multiple Local and National Level Champions throughout his MMA Coaching career. Wil has coached multiple Kids World Champions and two Silver Medalists at the World Championships. His Kids team has also placed either first or second in the last three years at the Newbreed Ultimate Challenge. Including a team Silver Medal at the 2018 Newbreed Northeastern National Championships.  Wil was a 2017 and 2018 finalist for Coach of the Year in the Dirty White Belt Radio Jiu Jitsu awards. Wil is currently a finalist for the Coach of the Year Award for the Best in the 757 Award Show hosted by 103JAMZ and 92.1 The Beat.

Wil Loshin​

Wil Loushin is a high level Brazlian Jiu Jitsu Black Belt competitor and Head Coach for the Grindstone Athletics NoGi Grappling Program.
