Read this, and read it again: recovery is a part of your workout routine.

If you do not recover properly, you cannot perform at your best. Improper recovery can lead to poor overall health, subpar training sessions, and heighten the risk of injury. Whether you're a competitor or casual hobbyist, you can set yourself up for success and be smart about your recovery with these top recovery components.

#1: Sleep

As far as recovery implements go, nothing comes close to quality sleep. Most muscle repair, hormone production, and recovery happens while you sleep. Aim for 7-9 hours per night. Additionally, practice good sleep hygiene: develop a consistent nighttime routine, avoid screens before bed, and make the place you sleep comfortable and inviting.

#2: Proper Nutrition

Your body needs fuel to recover. Focus on protein to repair muscle, carbohydrates to replenish energy, and fruits and vegetables for vitamins and minerals.

#3: Hydration

Even mild dehydration can reduce performance and slow recovery. Drink water constantly throughout the day, and especially after a training session

#4: Active Recovery

Light movement such as walking, cycling, mobility work, stretching, or shadow boxing increases blood flow and reduces stiffness without adding significant fatigue.

#5: Manage Training Stress

You don't get stronger from training; you get stronger from recovering from training. Mix hard days with easier days and avoid trying to go all out every session.

You can only train as well as you can recover. Train hard, recover well, and keep getting after it.
