If you're new to the world of Muay Thai and combat sports, you might have common misconceptions about what it means to train. That's okay--you don't know what you don't know. Here are five myths surrounding training we wanted to clear up.

Myth #1: You have to get "ready" to start training.

Ready is a choice, not a state of being. We choose to be ready to take on the challenges life presents. The best time to start was yesterday; the next best time is now.

Myth #2: You have to be in shape to start training.

Everyone starts somewhere, and everyone's journey is different. Muay Thai accepts people of all shapes, sizes, and abilities. We can meet you where you’re at and take you where you want to go.

Myth #3: If you train, you have to fight.

Fighting is not a requirement for training. A very small percentage of people who train choose to compete. Muay Thai is more than competition: it’s an avenue for health, fitness, and community.

Myth #4: If you're new or inexperienced, you'll slow down the room.

We have all been beginners at some point. Every experienced person you see was once a beginner just like you. We can all learn something from someone else, regardless of our experience level.

Myth #5: You have to be tough as nails to train.

First, you're tougher than you think. Second, non-competitive training does not demand the same intensity as competition training. Muay Thai is a contact sport; however, we still practice safely while challenging and pushing our limits.
